Bela-Bela, Limpopo Province
Bela-Bela is situated just off the N1 Highway between Pretoria and Polokwane. The area is only about a 2-hour drive from Johannesburg and 1 hour from Pretoria. The town lies in the Waterberg District of the Limpopo Province. It was previously called “Warmbaths” or the Afrikaans name “Warmbad” due to the fact that it was built around Hot Springs, which were present in the area. The town’s name was changed to Bela-Bela in 2002 which means “The pot that boils” in Tswana.
A vast number of nature reserves surround Bela-Bela and the town also has a few nature reserves of its own. The whole countryside resembles a bushveld atmosphere with its open spaces and parks. These nature reserves and hot springs are the main revenue for the town.
The reason why Bela-Bela is so popular is that it is so close to the major cities in Gauteng, and its climate is ideal as it remains mild to warm all year round.
