The Gauteng Province, even though it is considered one of the smaller provinces in South Africa, it is still one of the most developed. The province contains the largest city in South Africa, Johannesburg, which is considered the business hub of the province and of course the provincial capital of Gauteng. Because of this the province is also seen as the province that is most populated, many professionals want to live and work close to the large business districts. Pretoria is also the administrative capital of South Africa.

Surrounding Provinces includes the Limpopo Province to the north of Gauteng, the North West Province lies to the west and the Mpumalanga Province can be found to the east. To the south of Gauteng you have the Vaal River, which separates the Gauteng Province from the Free State. The Province is itself divided into five municipalities or areas, which include the Johannesburg Metroplitan Municipality, the Tshwane Metroplotian Municipality, Ekurhuleni also known as the East Rand, the West Rand and the Sedibeng area. The Sedibeng area includes Vereeneging and Vanderbijlpark.

The urban sprawl is growing continually from the Johannesburg city area outward. Many of the newer developments consist of cluster houses, townhouses and apartments, all within gated security complexes. Properties for sale in the Gauteng area varies greatly from the large and luxurious more expensive homes in areas like Houghton or Rosebank to the more affordable RDP housing in areas like Midrand and Soweto.

The Gauteng Province is a large contributor to the country’s financial, manufacturing, technology and transport divisions. You will also find that many large Corporations have made their headquarters in the Province, which provides them with a commercial centre and easier access to the rest of the continent. Some of the more well-known companies include Microsoft South Africa and Porsche amongst others. Also located in the Gauteng Province, is the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

There are a few public transport options within the Province from buses, to taxis and trains. The famous Gautrain can easily take you through to a variety of major locations including Pretoria, Sandton and the OR Tambo International Airport. There are also a number of other airports in the area, the Lanseria International Airport, Rand Airport, the Grand Central Airport and north of Pretoria, the Wonderboom Airport.

The Gauteng Province also has a number of major educational facilities. There is the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Pretoria, and the Tshwane University of Technology just to name a few. Each of the suburbs within the province also has access to a number of private and public schools.

Even though the province is densely populated with ever increasing developments, there are some green belts, parks, Botanical gardens and reserves located throughout the region. You have the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens and the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens. Some of the Nature Reserves include the Suikerbosrand and Rietvlei Nature Reserves.

Other interesting attractions in the Gauteng Province include the Johannesburg Zoo, Gold Reef City, and there is also the Pretoria zoo, which is also known as the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa. The Province is also home to some popular sporting venues including the Wanderers Stadium, the Ellis Park Stadium and the Orlando Stadium amongst others.
