Hartbeespoort Dam, North West Province

The Hartbeespoort Dam can be found surrounded by the Magaliesberg Mountains and is just over an hour’s drive away from the city of Pretoria. The dam is situated within the Bojanala Region of the North West Province. The region is well located and is a popular getaway and holiday destination for those who live in the Johannesburg or Gauteng area. The Hartbeespoort Dame region is a very lush and beautiful area, compared to the city and urban areas nearby. The Dam acts as a water source for surrounding farms and also as a resort for many holiday goers.

Hartebeespoort is also home to many people, you will find areas like PecanWood Estate, the Islands Estates, Meerhof, Schoemansville and Kosmos Ridge amongst others. Of course staying this close to a large dam provides the opportunity to take part in a number of water sports including boat cruises, jet skis, tube rides and more. There are also a number of other interesting places to visit such as the Hartebeespoort Elephant Sanctuary, the Hartebeespoort Dam Snake and animal Park and even an aerial cableway. There are also plenty of golf clubs and country clubs in the area.

Pecan Wood Estate is situated right on the water’s edge of the dam and is adjacent to Islands Estate. The Estate is just off the R512, which passes close by the area. This is a very upmarket Estate with modern homes, properties for sale in the area can sell for over R6 million. Of course the Estate also has its own golf course and country club. The Estate provides an Independent combined school, the Pecanwood College, which has a high school, preparatory and pre-preparatory school.

Meerhof is an area located close to the mouth of the Crocodile River that enters into the dam. The region has its own station, school and church. There are also a number of guest houses in the area, nearby is the popular Sediba Mountain Retreat. Properties for sale in the area include some very well-priced homes and vacant plots.

Schoemansville is quite a large area located close to the dam wall. The name of the area came from the previous owner of the land, General Hendrik Schoeman. This region along the shores of the dam is home to the Schoemansville resort, the Village Mall, the Hartebeespoort High School, the Hartebeespoort SAPS and a number of restaurants. The main roads in the area include Scott Street and Tielmann Street. Properties for sale include a number of spacious homes that offer 3 to 5 bedrooms. The prices of properties in the area average at about R2 million.

Kosmos Ridge is a residential section of the Kosmos area, which is located along the shores of the dam. Along this stretch of land there are plenty accommodation options, you will also find the Kosmos Library, Post Office and the Kosmos garden Chapel. The Hartebesspoort Boating Club and Sandy Lane Golf Club are both located in the area. Properties in this area include some very spacious houses and townhouses.
