The Mpumalanga Province can be found in the eastern parts of South Africa. The Province borders on Swaziland, as well as Mozambique. Other neighbouring areas include the Limpopo Province, Gauteng, the Free State and KwaZulu Naltal. The Province was known as the Eastern Transvaal before 1994. Mpumalanga is divided into three District Municipalities, which includes the Ehlanzeni District, Gert Sibande Districtand the Nkangala District. All of these Districts then have their own local municipalities.
The capital city of the province is Nelspruit, now also officially known as Mbombela. Nelspruit became recognised for its fruit production in the late 1800’s, especially citrus fruit, and this has been an important part of the towns economy ever since. The town lies on the bountiful Crocodile River and is also home to the University of Mpumalanga. Other notable areas in Nelspruit include the Botanical Gardens and Nature Reserve. Other popular or well-known areas in the Mpumalanga Province include Barberton, Ermelo, Standerton, Delmas, Dullstroom, and Sabie.

Other Major attractions in the area include the Sudwala Caves. These Caves are considered the oldest caves in the world. Visitors can enjoy a wondrous tour through the underground caves to see the beautiful rock formations. There are plenty of other activities at the Caves including the Sudwala Dinosaur Park. The Blyde River canyon is another popular destination within the Province. The Canyon offers fantastic views, some viewpoints are even named; God’s Window is a popular and well-known spot with awesome views of the surrounding area.
The province has so much to offer, there are so many activities available including mountain biking, hiking, river rafting, horse trails and much more. You can also visit some of the interesting gold rush towns like Barberton and Pilgrim’s Rest.
