Rosettenville is a suburb that is situated just over 6km south of the city of Johannesburg. Over the years from 1924 many white Portuguese immigrants came to Johannesburg and settled in the Rosettenville area. Along with these were other immigrants from Madeira and Mozambique, which in those days was a Portuguese Colony. After Mozambique became independent, a lot more of these immigrants moved into the area. This is why you will find quite a few Portuguese restaurants in the region.
Many of the properties for sale in Rosettenville are older houses, and most of them three bedroom homes that have prices under R1 million. There are schools in the area including the famous St Peter’s College, which is today known as St Martin’s School. This school was where Archbishop Desmond Tutu amongst others completed part of their schooling. There is also the Rosettenville Central Primary School.
There are plans to improve the area and to invite investors to uplift the region. The suburb is in an ideal location, close to Johannesburg, with access to a number of major roads nearby. Both the M1 and N12 Southern Bypass are just a short distance away. The surrounding suburbs include Oakdene, Linmeyer, The Hill, La Rochelle and Kenilworth.
To the south of Rosetenville is the world-class Glenvista County Club and the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, both are popular destinations in the region. To the north of the suburb, you have the Wemmer Pan or Pioneer Park and Dam, and there is also the Rand Stadium and Turffontein Racecourse.
